Clopening (and fair-workweek rest rules)

Clopening
Closing then opening with too little rest between — restricted under many fair-workweek laws.

A “clopen” is when the same employee works a closing shift and the next morning’s opening shift with too little rest between them — a scheduling pattern restricted under many fair-workweek and predictive-scheduling laws. These rules vary by jurisdiction and can carry real penalties. The durable fix is to catch the violation when the schedule is built rather than after it’s worked — blocking the non-compliant shift at creation, with an override-and-reason trail. (A software flag is a read of the applicable rule, not legal advice — confirm specifics with counsel.)
