Buddy punching

Buddy punching is when one employee clocks in or out for another who isn’t actually there — a common form of time theft that the American Payroll Association associates with time-theft costs of roughly 2.2% of gross payroll. It’s invisible to a basic time clock because the punch looks legitimate. The defenses that work verify where and who: a GPS location fix, a photo on file, and a geofence that rejects an off-site punch at the source rather than trusting it after the fact.
